Theory into practice

14 05 2009

Beliefs, religions, schools of thought, the meaning of life all together they are only theories. In all major religions, the message has been simple: love each other, live in peace and harmony with nature, thou shall not kill, thou shall not steal, love thy neighbour and so on and so on. However, most of the devastations and massacres that happened in history on the basis of belief and when religion was put into practice. So the question arises of who is to be blamed for all the hatred and differences spread among mankind in the world. Is it God or people who misuse the power of religion and mislead the masses into the black hole of resentment towards each other?

Vanity has always been one of the biggest sins, so shall we blame “the Devil” for it or shall we look inside us and bring out the face of stranger from within to blame? As the gifted and most advanced creature living on this planet, we have mistreated the environment and every other creature living in it. We are omnivorous so to survive we must kill, yet cultivate. We must destroy the balance of nature, yet construct and build empires for our own wellbeing in the name of advancement or just to quench our thirst of achieving more and more power. Ignorance is bliss, but on a mass scale it is a curse, for only what we do not know always hurts us in the long run. As the human mind becomes wiser and learns more about the world around it, things lose their value. Certain things that were so wonderful loose their awe because one realizes that there is so much more out there. Possessions, properties, fame and power do not have an end. More and more is the norm of human instinct. But once we reach the top there is only one way left, back to the beginning. What was a dream or a thought is now a reality, what is reality might one day become a long lost dream.

Exploitation doesn’t just stop with religions, but it goes far beyond. For instance, the idea of Communism was to create an utopia for the middle and lower classes of society in order to bring prosperity and equality. Although, when it was applied in Russia it ended up with state property and dictatorship. If we try to evaluate all known religions and schools of thought, we will come to similar conclusions. As long as human beings are involved in any ideology, sooner or later it will change its meaning and aim, no matter how heavenly wonderful the idea sounded in the beginning. War, chaos, destruction, hunger for power and monstrous ambitions are the other side of our nature, all of them continuously in battle with our good side. What for centuries long we searched on the outside, exists and breeds in our insides. God and Evil lives within us and it is up to us to open our eyes to it and choose the path. Trying to understand and accept everything we faced in the past and are facing now, can bring us to understanding ourselves. Thus, no religion introduced, no theory thought for the betterment of humanity has ever been evil, only once put into practice, human beings who claimed the ownership of such theories became power-hungry and evil in order to control the masses. Ugliness in our instincts will swallow our humanity, if we kill that innocent child of love inside us.
