I feel it's only fair to let you know that some of us here understand and enjoy your articles. And, more often than not, I agree with your opinions about Spanish way of life in general, and Salamanca's in particular, even though I am not a "guiri" but a true native of the place.
On the other hand, although your English is too difficult for my pupils, I occasionally pin one of your pages on the board or use some of the paragraphs or sentences to illustrate some theorical points.
So, keep the good work ... I always read your page first!

I suppose (hope) that I’m not the first to point this out, but, do you really think this was a clever thing to put down in print, and, especially, to have posted on Internet?

“ … I’ve always felt that in any case, Salamanca represents an extremely soft and potentially high profile target, and one where security goes no further that a smiling gorilla at the door: a suicide bomber in the Camelot disco during the summer would clearly have a far greater impact internationally than an attack on the airbase.”

And, no, I don’t think Al Qaeda needs people to do their scouting for them, but how wise is it to “name the beast”?

“I don’t write this to raise alarm bells so much as to reflect upon the strange unreality of our attitudes to the perceived threat, which is clearly fuelled and perpetuated by the media.”

Exactly.

So, why do it?
